Asymmetric vs. Symmetric
Why some fins have a right & left, & others are just fins

Why do some fins have a right & left while others can be worn on either foot?
Some bodysurfers & bodyboarders prefer an asymmetric fin because the longer fin on the outer edge pushes the swimmer to the “inside” with every kick. The asymmetric fin closely resembles fins & flippers in nature and is used by iconic fin makers like Churchill.
Others see no real difference using asymmetric fins and prefer the convenience of being able to put on whatever fin they want in the water.
Carver Fins are symmetric out of necessity. When rubber fins hit each other, no damage happens and you probably don’t even realize it. If a wooden fin tip clacks with a wooden base, chances are you end up with some damage done to one of your fins.
We chose asymmetric fins so you have less of a chance to hit your fins and not have to worry about how you swim.
